OWNED: Citizen Automatic GN-4-S / Vertex Revue Pocket Watch

Aside from my TAG collection, I have two other timepieces. The first is a pocket watch that was given to my Grandfather for 25 years service at Ketton Cement in 1959. I can't remember when I was given this, it must be fifteen years ago I'm guessing, I know my Mother still has the chain that came with it. I thought it had stopped working, but I pulled it out of the drawer yesterday and gave it a wind and it's ticking away. Seems to be keeping decent time as well, though it's not hackable so can't set it exactly... can't imagine that it's ever been serviced. It looks incredibly clean inside for such an old piece, especially considering the lack of care it's been shown. It says Swiss Made on the dial, although the case seems to have been made in England. There's a stamping on the inside which says 'Case guaranteed to wear for 10 years', I don't know whether that's referring to the gold plating or the case itself? The acrylic glass someti...

SPOTLIGHT ON: TAG Heuer Link Oracle Racing Edition

CT1118.BA0550 Many times I've stressed the importance of 'seeing' a watch, it's amazing how many times a promising photograph can lead to disappointment, or a uninteresting photograph can turn out to be something worth persuing. So when I came across this photograph (above) a couple of weeks ago while browsing on eBay, I perhaps should have known better than to get too excited straight away. For the most part I've never been that keen on the 'Link' range, in fact I much prefer the old S/EL models - they just seem to have a bit more character, but this one really grabbed my attention and I was seriously interested in purchasing it (this was before the whole Aquaracer buying frenzy, obviously!). However, once I started doing my homework, something quickly became apparent which completely changed my mind. And that was simply that the dial, despite looking white in the picture above, is actually silver, which to my mind completely ruins the effect! I mean it...

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph

CV2A84.FC6394 Wow, so here we have a Carrera on a brown leather strap, so this is only going one way right? Well, not so fast... because actually, I don't mind this one. It reminds me of a Timex I used to have many years ago (back in the days when I used to buy my wrist-watches from Argos - I know, the shame of it...). It was either called an Explorer or an Expedition or something else beginning with E that made it sound rugged and manly, and truth be told it looked nothing like this Carrera, but it did have a suede/leather type strap and at the time I really liked it. Not actually sure what happened to it, probably fell to bits like the Citizen I had after it... But anyway, I think this is rather smart and reminds me of that new Aquaracer with the brown nylon strap... ...a watch incidentally, which looks a million times better once you get it off that daft nylon thing and put it on black rubber. In fact now that I've seen it on black rubber I am sorely tempted to buy one, wer...
