FEATURE: The Bamford Monaco - Personalisation or Vandalism?

I came across a website yesterday for a company in Guildford who specialise in selling pre-owned luxury watches, and among the various items available for sale I saw this 'Bamford' Monaco. Of course I've heard of Bamford before, but I thought they only really customised Rolex watches... apparently not! Strangely enough I was looking at the Bamford website the other day and I must admit I do like some of their designs, especially because I rather like black and bright green together and there aren't that many luxury watches that offer this colour scheme. Not terribly surprising perhaps, but every single watch on the site was 'POA' and I'm pretty sure that I couldn't afford any of them even if I wanted one, but it got me thinking about this whole 'customisation' thing and more specifically 'third party' customisation. Some of you may have seen Armin Strom's new watch range where the customer can personalise various elements of the watch...

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: Carrera Calibre 16 Chronograph

CV2A84.FC6394 Wow, so here we have a Carrera on a brown leather strap, so this is only going one way right? Well, not so fast... because actually, I don't mind this one. It reminds me of a Timex I used to have many years ago (back in the days when I used to buy my wrist-watches from Argos - I know, the shame of it...). It was either called an Explorer or an Expedition or something else beginning with E that made it sound rugged and manly, and truth be told it looked nothing like this Carrera, but it did have a suede/leather type strap and at the time I really liked it. Not actually sure what happened to it, probably fell to bits like the Citizen I had after it... But anyway, I think this is rather smart and reminds me of that new Aquaracer with the brown nylon strap... ...a watch incidentally, which looks a million times better once you get it off that daft nylon thing and put it on black rubber. SPOTLIGHT ON: TAG Heuer Super Professional 1000M Dive Watch

WS2110-2 As the proud owner of an Aquagraph (or a 2000 Aquagraph to give it it's original name), I can't help but have a soft spot in my heart for this Super Professional 1000M dive watch. While perhaps not a direct predecessor, the Aquagraph being a chronograph and 'only' water resistant to 500M, this is nonetheless another of the great TAG Heuer hardcore dive watches. The pictures here are taken from a listing on eBay which, while relatively expensive, is extremely tempting nonetheless. It's up for £1995, with the option to make offers, which isn't cheap by any means but nor is it completely outrageous. What's particularly nice about this one is the condition, I've seen several of these in the past but they often seem to have lived hard lives and usually one or more of the prominent bezel mounds has taken the brunt of something or other.
